bond pet food review - animal free protein for pets

During 2019 and 2020 there have been many new companies challenging the status quo for pet food.   Our Bond Pet food review describes how this food is different from others…Bond creates animal protein through a process similar to craft brewing (cheers !)

Dogs and cats, like humans, need protein to support muscles and remain healthy.   Animal protein has come under fire in recent years due to the poor treatment of the animals, antibiotics and chemicals given to the animals, the negative impact the animals have on land and much more.

how is bond different ?

  • Protein is derived from animal cells - no animals are harmed

  • Kind to the planet, less impact on land and water resources

  • Team includes Veterinary Nutritionists, Biomedical Engineers

  • Pet Care Innovation Contest finalist

whats wrong with "old school" dog food ?

As noted, there has been an explosion of new companies developing new types of dog food during 2019 and 2020.   So, what’s wrong with “old school” dog food ?  Is it really that bad ?   Dogs survived on it going way back in time prior to the past few years … right ? ?

Well, yes, they “survived”.   However, much like advances in understanding around food for humans, there have been advances in understanding about the makeup of pet food.   Humans also “survived” on frozen TV dinners (they were very popular in the 1970s and still exist today) but we know that the salt, preservatives and chemicals in those are not good for our health.    This same analysis has been applied to pet food in recent years and the truth is that many pet foods used fillers, chemicals, and very questionable sources of protein.    Some Veterinarians and Pet Nutritionists have gone as far as comparing Commercial “old school” pet food to fast food (like McDonald’s or  In-N-Out Burger) … certainly not a glowing endorsement.

corn is good right ?

Corn is listed on the ingredients and possibly even highlighted on the face of commercial pet food packaging.   This is healthy and a good thing right ?   Surprisingly no in a majority of cases.    Many brands use low quality corn as a cheap filler in their dog kibble.   This lower quality “corn” could consist of ground corn remnants and there are no restrictions on levels of pesticides that may be part of the corn.   Finally, consider high fructose corn syrup.   Humans know that is something we try to avoid in our food.   Studies have linked it to increased risk of diabetes and weight gain.    An odd coincidence that obesity and diabetes have increased in dogs in the past 5-10 years ?  Research and studies point to poor quality pet food.
